Three passengers were arraigned at the Magistrate Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Magisterial District on Friday, February 15, following a disruptive incident aboard Air Peace Flight P4 7579 from London to Lagos.
Adewale Adedigba (52), Magnis Ashibuogwu (50), and Iwunze Benjamin (30) are accused of breaching public peace and violating aviation regulations.
The incident occurred on February 12, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM.
Police reports allege the defendants caused panic and disturbance among passengers and crew by shouting and behaving disruptively.
They are charged under Section 168(1)(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, for conduct deemed a breach of public peace.
In addition to the public disturbance charge, the trio is accused of unlawfully moving from their assigned economy seats to the business class section without authorization.
This action violates Section 4(1)(a)(b) of the FAAN Bye-Law 2005. The incident was reported by airline staff upon the flight’s arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, leading to the passengers’ arrest by airport police.
The prosecution, led by SP Oladipupo Taiwo, is seeking strict enforcement of aviation laws to deter future incidents.
While the defendants’ pleas were not immediately recorded, the case has been adjourned to March 3, 2025, for hearing.
This adjournment allows both prosecution and defense time to prepare their cases. Potential penalties for the accused include fines or imprisonment if found guilty.
This case highlights concerns regarding in-flight conduct and the need for stricter enforcement of regulations within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Industry experts are advocating increased passenger awareness and compliance to ensure the safety and comfort of all travelers.
The March 3 hearing is expected to set a precedent for similar cases involving disruptive behavior on flights.
