Air Peace, West Africa’s largest airline, has announced the promotion of Senior First Officer Chibuzo Mbanefo to the rank of Captain on its Boeing 777 fleet.

The airline celebrated the achievement in a ceremony at its corporate headquarters, attended by Chairman/CEO Dr. Allen Onyema, Chief Operating Officer Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olajide, and other dignitaries.

Captain Mbanefo’s promotion follows rigorous training and the fulfillment of all regulatory requirements, according to Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications for Air Peace.

He has accumulated over 4,800 flight hours on the B777 and demonstrated exceptional performance in the command upgrade training program, said Captain Gerald Udaya.

Dr. Onyema and Mrs. Olajide ceremoniously conferred the epaulettes of Captain on Mbanefo.

Captain Iwo-Brown urged the new Captain to maintain discipline, adhere to aviation protocols, and prioritize safety.

In an emotional address, Captain Mbanefo expressed gratitude to Dr. Onyema, his family, and the flight operations management team.

He recounted his journey from flight dispatcher at Air Peace to his current position, highlighting the airline’s support for his career progression, including training on the Boeing 737 and his eventual transition to the B777.

Captain Mbanefo has exhibited outstanding professionalism and dedication, and we are incredibly proud to see him take this next step in his career.”

He emphasized the importance of humility, continuous learning, and safety, urging Captain Mbanefo to embrace his new responsibilities.  “It is only your character that determines your altitude in life,” Dr. Onyema added.

The promotion comes as Air Peace expands its fleet and route network, recently adding new destinations and strengthening its long-haul capabilities with its Boeing 777 aircraft.

The airline’s investment in its pilots aligns with its vision of providing safe, world-class air travel.
