AIB launches reporting mobile App, presents scorecard and 4 final accident reports

The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB has introduced a mobile Application to aid it get information and reports of emergencies of serious accidents, incidents and plane crashes in the country real time.

The app is aimed at improving engagement with Nigerians by providing easy and open access to the Bureau and its activities.
At the Launch of the mobile App and 4 final accident investigation reports in Lagos, Commissioner, AIB, Engr. Akin Olateru said the App would lay to rest the cumbersome procedure and processes of getting information or reports to the bureau for speedy response.

He said, “AIB Mobile App as it is called, gives us a new and more convenient way to receive Aircraft Accident Report in real time, thus increasing promotional opportunities with push notifications and more which depicts its core objectives of Accident and Incidence investigation reports”.

He explained that the use of the App by aviators, passengers and the General public would go along way to enhancing their productivity and eliminating the undue delays in the release of accident investigation reports.

“The Application is now available for free download on the Apple, Android and Google play stores. Details of which are now available on our website, tapping into this, the development of a mobile application is essential to our processes as it extends our relationship with users by providing”.he added.

The AIB commissioner released 4 final accident investigation reports, of serious incident involving an Aero contractor aircraft Boeing 737 of 5th June, 2015 and the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, NCAT, Zaria TBN 850 aircraft near Kaduna airport on June 16th,2013.
Others are serious incident involving Bell 47 aircraft belonging to Gitto construczion Generali company in Uyo in 2009 and a serious incident involving a Diamond aircraft belonging to an Aviation training college in Illorin.

Mr. Olateru stressed that in all these serious incidents, no fatalities were recorded adding that 3 of those involved are well and one currently in a wheelchair.

He explained that the statutory obligation of the AIB was to investigate air accidents and serious incidents: and by its safety recommendations, mitigate them in order to forestall reoccurrence, adding that safety recommendations have been sent to all stakeholders for quick implementation to promote flight safety in Nigeria.

The Bureau according to Olateru has so far this year released 10 final accident investigation reports and 35 safety recommendations.

“In January 2017 – 27 Final Reports were Pending, March 2017 – 4 accident and serious incident final reports were released, August 2017 – 2 final Reports Published and 1 Safety Bulletin. Today, we have released four (4) reports to bring a total this year to ten (10) published final reports”.
“AIB was established in 2006 by the Civil Aviation Act and since commencing operations in 2007, we have published117 safety recommendations, this year from the 10 published reports, 35 safety recommendations have been made”, he concluded.
