Urges ATC to work continually with stakeholders
The Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, Mr. Akin Olateru says the aviation sector has recorded no major air crash for over 3 years because of the synergy and effective collaboration among aviation agencies.
He emphasized that to sustain this feat, aviation agencies and stakeholders must continually work together.
Mr. Olateru who was the Chairman at this year’s the 47th Annual General Meeting/Elections (Extra-Ordinary) in Lagos,with the Theme: Stronger Collaboration for Zero Air Accident’ of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association,NATCA said policies and regulations needed to be reviewed to further achieve and meet up with global standards.
The AIB boss noted that the air traffic control service play a crucial role in ensuring safety as they aid smooth and better communication between the pilots and the ground staff in order to avoid air accidents and incidents.
According to him,”this year’s theme Stronger Collaboration for Zero Air Accident stresses encouragement of smooth understanding between the important agencies in the aviation industry to work as one”.
He implored all aviation stakeholders to work together and place premium on the development of human capacity which would in turn yield to a positive level of productivity.
” A happy workforce, will produce a better result”. We must research on how to make things better, development is equally key”.
Olateru also used the occasion to highlight the achievements of the bureau in the last 23 months with the release of 21 final accident reports, 73 safety recommendations and also the first Safety Bulletin.
He attributed the Bureau successes to a well- equipped organization while the outstanding safety investigations to an effective relationship built overtime with stakeholders in the industry nationally and internationally.
“We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with São Tomé and Principe and also released the final report for an air accident we helped investigate into”.
” As one of our process of investigating or concluding on our report to the public, we invite industry experts who have either by any ways been involved in the particular aircraft to join our safety investigators to review the report of the investigation. We have in the last 24 months tagged this as our general review which has been productive”.
