…honoured at OTC 2025 for leadership in engineering advancement
President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Oguntala, FNSE, has called for stronger alignment between African engineering institutions and international standards.
She also, emphasized the need to nurture homegrown talent through localized strategies.
Speaking at the African Content Collaboration Session of the 2025 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), held on Wednesday, May 7, at the Wyndham Hotel in Houston, Texas, Engr. Oguntala highlighted the need for engineering education in Africa to evolve in tandem with global trends.
She repeated the importance of adapting international best practices to fit local contexts, while calling for investment in infrastructure, faculty and curriculum development, industry partnerships, and digital tools that can bridge the gap between academic institutions and the engineering profession.
The session has as it theme “Local Content Development and Partnership for Africa’s Energy Sustainability,” brought together stakeholders from across the continent to share insights on advancing regional collaboration and capacity building in Africa’s energy and engineering sectors.
In recognition of her visionary leadership and longstanding contribution to the advancement of engineering in Africa, Oguntala was presented with an Award of Honour during the event.
A dynamic Q&A segment rounded off the session, allowing panelists, including the NSE President, to engage directly with participants on implementation strategies and strengthening regional cooperation.
