….to induct Heads of aviation agencies into AFARN Aviation Hall of Fame
Aviation Stakeholders are to converge on Lagos next week for a Safety and Awards summit to discuss “Aviation Safety in a global distressed economy: The place of Nigeria”.
The event put together by the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria, AFARN will have in attendance, the Minister of Aviation Sen. Hadi Sirika as the special guest of honour, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State will be the host.
Also expected to grace the event are, the Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Ag. Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA and the Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB-Nigeria, heads of aviation handling companies and others stakeholders.
The summit is to take place at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos on 28th October, 2022.
At a news briefing in Lagos, the president of AFARN, Mr. Kingsley Nwokoma said, the major theme of the summit will be presented by the Managing Director of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu.
On the theme of the summit, Nwokoma said, the aviation industry was the most affected by Covid-19 and recovery span a long period, adding that, the economies of the world is also distressed due to the Russia/ Ukraine war still on.
“The theme of this summit is also in view of the new world order and also discussing the place of Nigeria in this space, safety is the major key factor in the aviation industry and without safety, there is no aviation industry”.
On the activities at the summit, the AFARN President stated that, there would be awards and presentation of cheque to an orphanage NKAR based in Benue state.
He explained that, the most interesting part of the summit is the presentation of an award to Brig. Gen. Buba Mohammed Marwa, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for his gallant efforts in fighting the drug war in Nigeria.
“The airport is one of the major gateways and there is no week they don’t get people trying to smuggle in drugs being apprehended, a couple of weeks ago, we wake to hear of close to a record value of over 300m USD, that was in Ikorodu. AFARN has deemed it necessary to honour him, he will be getting an award on that day and he will also be inducted into AFARN Aviation Hall of Fame”.
Also to be inducted into the AFARN Aviation Hall of Fame are; the MD FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, DG NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, Ag MD NAMA, Mr. Mathew Pwajok and Commissioner, AIB-N, Mr. Akin Olateru.
Nwokoma said, there would be other categories awards that will be given out on that day, these includes, the presentation of an Integrity award to the AVSEC airport team of FAAN to propel them to do more and appreciate for their hardwork.
‘Most times it is good to celebrate our own, we hear stories of when you are out of the country, you drop your phone and you get it back and of late, there have been a lot of missing items that have been returned to the rightful owners and this is the AVSEC team around the airport so, the integrity award is also letting them know we appreciate what they are doing and we commend them and we know that they will be able to do more”.
“As usual we are, this is also something we do every year at AFARN summit, we are presenting a Humanitarian cheque to NKAR Orphanage in Benue state and in as much as we are alive we know there are people in the orphanage trying to struggle and part of our social commitment is to present and help the orphanages”.
