The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika says the Federal Government is positioning the sector to take its rightful place to grow the nation’s gross domestic, GDP.
This is just as he assured that the FG was determined to create the right atmosphere for aviation business to thrive in the country.
Speaking at this year’s summit and awards of the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria AFARN in Lagos with the theme: “Unlocking potentials in the aviation industry through Safety”, Sirika represented by his personal Assistant Dr. Ibrahim Idris the target of government remained to make air Transport Service not only enjoyable but safe and secured.
He stressed that this would be achieved through empowerments and upgrade of infrastructure across all the airports.
” I want to use this opportunity to say government is not resting on its oars to seeing that issues likely to slow down progress of the Industry is addressed adequately and on time”, he added.
Senator Sirika noted that Nigeria remained a major force in aviation due to her population on the continent, adding that the position had not changed as they had been record of steady improvement and this would continue in this new dispensation.

” Let me also emphasize all the same, that it is not yet Uhuru, but believe that with collective efforts, we shall surmount some challenges facing the Industry of which the present government is determined to tackle particularly the issues of safety and security”.
According to the aviation minister, the government was working round the clock to see the sector’s roadmap was strictly followed.
He listed areas of success to include upgrade of Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, NCAT into an International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO Regional centre of Excellence and review of Civil Aviation Policy and Acts.
Others are restructuring of Aviation parastatals and employment policies on the Enforcement of expatriate quote.
“The role of the aviation industry remains very vital to economic activities not only in our clime but the world over and so, issues of safety cannot be overemphasized”.
Sirika added that the changing nature of aviation practice demanded constant review and thus, government target remained to make air transport service not only enjoyable but safe and secure.
“I think my business as minister is to encourage everyone to join hands with government to build a virile aviation industry. When the system opens up, instead of job loss, there would be job creation”.
In his opening remarks, President AFARN, Mr. Kingsley Nwokoma said the theme of this year’s summit was carefully chosen bearing in mind that safety remained the bedrock of aviation practice the world over.
He stated that though their had been remarkable improvements and growth in the system given that the number of the flying public had not not dropped, government can do better by upgrading infrastructures across board to give room for more investment opportunities.
On the recognition and awards for 2019, Nwokoma said, “this year we recognize the vital importance of the Aircraft Engineers and the Air Traffic Controllers without whom there will be no aircraft to fly in the first place and no skies to operate”.
” We are inducting Engr. Abosede Felicitas Oladumiye, First Nigerian Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and Arogunjo Kayode Abdulrazak, First Nigerian Air Traffic Controller into the AFARN Hall of Fame”.


” The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State his Excellency Mr. Udom Emmanuel inducted into the AFARN Hall of Fame and also receive an award as the Most Aviation Friendly Governor in Nigeria”.

Mr. Ikechi Uko, organizer of the reknowned Akwaaba African Travel Market was given an award as the Icon of Tourism of the year, for his passion and resilience in the promotion of tourism in the Africa continent.
