Ahead of resumption of international flight this Saturday 5th of September, 2020, the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria, AFARN, has donated cartons of hand sanitizers to some government agencies, Schools and private stakeholders at the Lagos airport.
There donations is their own way of contributing their quota to the safety of agencies officials at the airport who interface with passengers and other stakeholders in this period of the Covid-19 pandemic so says AFARN President.
Mr. Kingsley Nwokoma, AFARN President said, the whole essence was contributing they own might in the fight against this pandemic.
“We know that sanitizers are her et stay, there is no cure, there is no vaccine yet so we still following the normal protocols. Wash your hands, use your sanitizers, social distancing and am that, that is the essence to make sure that all our people at the airport stay safe, all the establishments that we relate with stay safe during this period so hence the donation, it is part of out corporate social responsibility.”
It was a week filled event as president of AFARN, Mr. Kingsley Nwokoma and staff commenced the presentation of the hand sanitizers to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.
At the presentation, the NIS Comptroller, MMIA, Abdullahi Usman said AFARN was the first to make such donations, added that it was an evidence that the Association had the interest of the NIS at heart.
“Am really happy with the thinking if the airlines, it shows some people somewhere needed to be assisted, that thinking am very happy with it. That shows there are people outside looking at us and they want to at least show their sympathy in this situation, am really happy and I want to tell you to the best of my ability it serves as a sound and effective encouragement to us because NIS does not work in isolation, am happy, I will send this message to my Comptroller that there are people that are after our care.”
At the Nigeria Customs Service, the AFARN entourage was received by the, Customs Commander Mrs. Lena Oyama and senior customs officers.
Mrs. Oyama said, the command appreciated the gesture and promised to use the sanitizers as expected.”We really commend this your gesture, it shows that you have us at heart, it shows that you appreciate the job we do here and I say thank you for thinking of our safety.”
At the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Lagos airport, the commander of the agency, Mr. Ahmadu Garba said they were elated with the donations.
He stressed that the fight against the pandemic was a collective one and that AFARN had demonstrated that they were worthy partner in ensuring the fight was won and the safety of the officers secured.”It has shown that you find us as a worthy partner in the industry and a lot of respect and care for all my staff especially in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The AFARN team also visited the Nigeria Agricultural and Quarantine services and presentation of the sanitizers received by to the Assistant Director and Station Coordinator, Export Inspection and Certification, NAQS, Mrs Eze V.C.
Other places visited for donations includes the cargo and clearing agents offices, NAGAFF and ANCLA at the hajj and Caro area of the airport.Not left out where the secondary schools within the airport vicinity.
At the Air Force Secondary Schools, Group Captain BT Oguntunde who is in charge of the Schools thanked AFARN for the sanitizers.
The Head boy and Girl of the school were also on hand to witness the presentation of the items.
While at the Murtala Mohammed Secondary Secondary Schools, the some Students, staff and Principal of the School, Mrs. Stella Otoide received the donations and promised to ensure the safety of the students.
“We want to appreciate the Association of Foreign airlines for this presentation, we are really, really delighted to have you present this to us.”
She said, as a school, they had resolved to fight covid19 in every sense of it, “you can see, you can see out students masked up even the ones writing exams in the hall now, they also masked up and we hand the signs all over, we had done training on covid19 protocols, we have done trying for the students, the environment is neat, taps for washing hands are around, we have everything for the school to resume. Thank you, we appreciate this.”
