In less than 8 days to the reopening of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja runway that was temporarily closed for rehabilitation has reached 96%.
The Minster of State for Aviation Sen. Hadi Sirika while inspecting the final lap of asphalt laying confirmed the 96 per cent completion of the ongoing rehabilitation and that it will be reopened for operations come April 19.
“This is runway 22 where the work terminates and remember the work started from the other end which is 04. You can see that we have finished asphalting and we are at 96% completion. Asphalting has completed and the airfield lightings installation have started. The marking of the runway and the lightings is going on simultaneously. He also gave assurance that the runway will not retain water again due to the introduction of new technology. “The runway will not be retaining water again as it were in the past because of the introduction of new Technology.”
When the minister got to the beginning of the runway and saw how far the installation of the airfield lightings have gone, he could not hide his elation. “Can you see that the installation of airfield lighting is going on. This is Three to Four days’ work and we still have about 8 days to go. We are happy and we are on course”.
