Aviation unions have threatened to shut down activities in the sector if the Minister of State aviation, senator Hadi Sirika refuses to suspend the recently approved organogram for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.
This is just as the unions have also issued a 7day ultimatum in this regard.
The unions are; ANAP, NUATE, ATSSSAN and NAAPE.
At a rally during a joint Congress of the unions in the headquarters of the NCAA, the unions alleged there maybe mass sack inNCAA, over the newly approved orgapnogram that was not in the interest of the workers.
The unions who paralysed early morning activities at the NCAA today, accused the minister of meddling in the Affairs of the agencies, especially the NCAA , alleging that the undue interfence had led to corruption in the system, flooding the industry with people and placing them on managerial levels, use of personal companies to execute projects etc.
The union members who carried placards with different inscriptions chanted solidarity songs calling on the union leaders to take a decisive action against the aviation ministry and stop it from dictating what goes on in the day to day running of the authority.
President, Air Transport Services
Senior Staff Association, ATSSSAN, Comrade Illitrus Ahmadu represented by his Deputy National President, comrade Sarah Rimdans alleged that some directorates and departments were scrapped in the new organogram.
He said, this was unacceptable based on the agreement reached with the Ministerial committee set up for the review of the organogram with the unions.
The organogram of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA was
developed in the year 2000 when the Authority started operations.
The call for the review of the organogram by the unions became strong when in 2017; some staff of the Authority could not be promoted due to lack of vacancies.
At the resumption of work in the New Year 2019, leaders of the unions in the NCAA gathered during a prayer session and threatened to shut down the agency if nothing was done to address the matter.
According to the President, Air Transport Services Senior Staff
Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Comrade Illitrus Ahmadu it was later discovered that the organogram needed to be reviewed so that staff could have their promotions.
A ministerial committee was set up in this regard, sat with the
internal stakeholders including the unions to discuss the grey areas
and it was alleged that after many meetings, a new organogram was put together to the satisfaction of all parties and sent to the interim
board comprising the Minister of state, aviation, permanent secretary in the Ministry and the Director
General, NCAA due to the absence of board of directors.
The ATSSSAN president said to their surprise, what came back was
totally different from what was sent to them.
He said this was a ploy by the Ministry to create a situation of
redundancy within system.
Secretary General, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals,
ANAP, Comrade Abdulrazak Saidu said the undue inference of the
aviation ministry and the failures of the minister to inaugurate the board
of directors for the agencies have further compounded the agencies
He stated that, it was high time the unions rise up yo demand that the aviation board br inaugurated, adding that, it was disrespectful of Sirika not to have acted according after President Buhari named the members.
Reacting to the matter, General manager public Affairs NCAA, Sam Adurogboye said efforts were on to resolve all issues in contention.
He emphasized that the industrial harmony that had always existed between the unions and the management would be sustained.
